I'm watching. You're watching. Let's talk.

Is Jay Leno out? Or just bumping Conan O’Brien?

(Updates below)

Was just a matter of time I guess. As of Thursday aft, some sites are reporting (tho’ NBC is denying) that the network has fired Jay Leno from his poorly rated prime-time talk show.

And then the New York Times’ Bill Carter is writing about, referencing a TMZ (!!??) report, that NBC is in talks with Leno and current Tonight Show host Conan O’Brien about the hosts’ futures.

I’m sure the story will convulse six more times before the facts are known, but this much is true: Conan O’Brien is going to get the short end of some stick or other.

Here’s the story (with links to the reports mentioned above) as we’ve patched it together for The Gazette’s site, which my colleagues promise they will try to keep updated.

If you’ve got more goods, do share.

Thursday evg update: NYT’s Carter has just blogged — thought it’s not yet confirmed — that NBC will air Leno at 11:35 p.m. ET, O’Brien at 12:05 a.m. ET.

Friday morning: Now TMZ, and you have to admit they are almost as correct as they are sleazy, is reporting O’Brien might be off NBC’s dance card altogether.
