I'm watching. You're watching. Let's talk.

TV on DVD, Jon and Kate Plus Ei8ht: Click here if you want an entire season of a family’s destruction

Ah, remember when Jon and Kate were a Pennsylvania couple whose sanity — in the moshpit of raising twins and sextuplets — charmingly defied reason?
Remember when their reality show, Jon and Kate Plus Ei8ht, was a sweet hour each week on TLC in which fans would watch to marvel at how they were getting by. I stumbled on this show in the second season or so and, although I am more reality-show-averse than anyone you know, I got a little hooked. This was, after all, sweet reality. Frayed sweet reality, but still. The sheer force of will required to do a simple thing like get a family photo taken or even have a meal with that brood was truly impressive. And I was more than a little sucked in by how Jon and Kate would reveal their untidy selves, their frustration with each other, but also make up. Sounds sucky. Suppose it was.
And then came the show’s last season, available now on DVD as Jon and Kate Plus Ei8ht: Season 5 – Big Changes.
Accusations of affairs from both sides, tawdry but massive internet chatter, and the eventual news that the couple would divorce — although the show must go on, as Kate Plus 8 (although the talk is that the new TLC show, start date unknown, will focus on Kate and not on the kids).
Then there’s the kids. Very sad. I couldn’t bear to watch any of the last season. Not sure why anyone else would want to either. Not that I’m judging. You go ahead. I haven’t ruined it have I?

Here are some other new TV on DVD releases this week that will not taint your soul.
