I'm watching. You're watching. Let's talk.

Talk-show tango Feb. 8-12: Leno, Letterman, Oprah, Celine Dion… Oh yeah!

In television on 02/08/2010 at 12:52 am

I miss ONE Super Bowl. One! And I miss the ad of the night! Here it is and here is the L.A. Times inside scoop on how Jay Leno, David Letterman and Oprah Winfrey pulled off possibly the most secret Super Bowl ad ever.

Nice move by Leno, coming off like a regular fun guy in the face of his losing end of the chaos a couple of weeks back when he accepted NBC’s offer to retake the Tonight Show, after Conan O’Brien refused to move his version of the Tonight Show back to midnight. End result then was that a vocal minority expressed intense dislike for Leno and NBC and canonized St. O’Brien. Will this fun little spoof ad last night repair a bit of Leno’s dented image? Does it mean that Leno’s truly sorry that during the 10 days or so of intense monologue mockery he returned Letterman’s fire with a personal attack at Letterman’s messy staff liaison scandal? STay tuned to As the Talk Show Turns…

Now then, to the talk-show highlights. Well Ellen celebrates here 1,100th show on Monday and, oh yeah, makes her debut on American Idol Tuesday. Which I’m sure no one will even notice. And elsewhere, Sport Illustrated Swimsuit Edition models are making the rounds. And so is enormous cast of the ensemble movie Valentine’s Day. One last thing? Leno goes dark starting Wednesday, when it is replaced by Law & Order: SVU (then The Office and the Olympics opening ceremonies). Finally, Celine Dion’s back. She’s on Oprah on Wednesday promoting her new theatrical spectacle Through the Eyes of the World — and that’s not a Las Vegas theatre. It’s a movie theatre near you. And now, the guest list…
