Talk-show tango April 5-9: All hail the robot Geoff Peterson, as well as Alice Waters and David Simon

In television on 04/05/2010 at 8:51 am

If today is Monday, April 5, then it’s only hours before the world meets Late Late Show host Craig Ferguson’s new robot sidekick. Tune in tonight… Oh yes, he already has a name. Geoff Peterson. Grant Imahara, the Mythbusters robot wiz who has created the Geoff Peterson for Ferguson, says only Craig knows where the name came from (prolly Twitter?). An NPR blogger has a great Q&A with Grant on the making of the GP. I liked this assurance in particular:

NPR: “I think everybody will want to know whether you have been careful in building Geoff Peterson to make sure that he cannot turn on us.”

Grant: “Right, right. Yes, I’ve gotten a lot of messages from the Robot Skeleton Army on Twitter [which is what Craig calls his Twitter followers], urging me to be careful that Geoff Peterson does not become self-aware and turn on humanity. I can guarantee you that I’ve put in place programming to prevent that from happening.”

All hail Geoff Peterson Monday night at 12:35 a.m. on CBS.

Other highlights this week: David (The Wire) Simon is on The Colbert Report on Wednesday to talk up his new show Treme, set in post-Katrina New Orleans and Tina Fey and Steve Carell are everywhere (including Oprah, together, on Tuesday) to promote their movie Date Night. And foodies might want to know that Alice Waters, she of the gospel of local food, goes toe to toe with Bill Maher in one of his three one-on-ones this Friday.
