Saturday Night Live: Can Facebook do for Carol Burnett what it’s done for Betty White?

Betty White gets her moment tonight, May 8, as host of Saturday Night Live and she’ll not only co-star with musical guest Jay-Z in a “couple of sketches” but will also have plenty of female companionship: returning for the pre-Mother’s Day episode are former SNL regulars Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Molly Shannon, Ana Gasteyer and Rachel Dratch.

Earlier in the week, White told Jimmy Fallon on his Late Night show, that if she ever meets the guy, David Matthews, who started the Facebook page that started it all, she says she’s gonna kill him. And despite sweet-old-Golden Girls appearances, we know she’s still got a killer instinct as well, some of which you’ll see in the video from Fallon’s show. Thanks to TVSquad for the link to this video.

Enjoy. Then watch White with musical guest Jay-Z, starting tonight at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Global.

And speaking of Facebook and the campaign that landed Betty White her hosting slot tonight, will the same kind of campaign work for fellow TV star from decades past Carol Burnett?

Much as I love the actress (Law & Order: SVU) and former variety show host, (just downloaded the audio version of her new memoir, This Time Together), I’m not convinced she can get the half-million fans that gave the Betty White campaign its momentum. However I’m a Facebook fan and I’m one of 1,988 as of Saturday noon. If you want to elevate more comediennes of a certain age to new pop cultural relevance, here’s a link to the Carol Burnett to host SNL Facebook page.
