CBS unveils fall 2010 lineup: Hello William Shatner, Daniel Dae Kim, Alex O’Loughlin and Tom Selleck

In a busy week of networks unveiling their 2010-11 main roster of programming, CBS was the last of the big four U.S. networks to step up. With five new series (six if you count the midseason Criminal Minds spinoff, starring Forest Whitaker, but as yet untitled), there was good news for fans of Lost star Daniel Dae Kim and Moonlight’s Alex O’Loughlin in a new Hawaii Five-0 and for fans of Montreal boy William Shatner and the series inspired by the Twitter feed $#*! My Dad Says. However, it wasn’t a pretty thing for lovers of the old CBS roster. Cancellations were high: Gary Unmarried, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Accidentally On Purpose, Cold Case, Ghost Whisperer, Miami Medical, Numb3rs and the new medical drama Three Rivers, (although the San Francisco Chronicle says there is still a chance that ABC could pick up Christine and Whisperer). More bad news? Jim Belushi is back. Sigh.

Here’s a look at the new shows (followed by a day-to-day breakdown of the fall TV schedule, with absent shows following in mid-season:

New comedies

$#*! My Dad Says: Inspired by Justin Halpern’s Twitter feed repeating the funny, acidic things his elderly dad says, this will star William Shatner as an old guy who says outrageous and (the hope) funny $#*!. The family will include a couple of sons, one of whom is married to bossy woman (Nicole Sullivan, MADtv and King of Queens).

Mike & Molly: From Chuck Lorres (Two and a Half Men, Big Bang Theory), this is about a couple who meet at an Overeaters Anonymous meeting. Billy Gardell plays a cop and Melissa McCarthy is a grade-school teacher. Swoosie Kurtz plays Molly’s mom.

New dramas

Hawaii Five-0: Alex O’Loughlin (Three Rivers, Moonlight) is Det. Steve McGarrett, Scott Caan (the Ocean’s movies) is his partner Det. Danny “Danno” Williams and Lost’s Daniel Dae Kim is an ex-cop now working for the federal security force and the former partner of McGarrett’s father, who was murdered. Rounding out the team of four is newby cop Grace Park (Battlestar Galactica).

The Defenders: Jim Belushi and Jerry O’Connell are Las Vegas defence lawyers and occasional gamblers.

Blue Bloods: Tom Selleck is chief of police in New York and head of the Reagan family and he runs both outfits with the same vigour. Len Cariou plays his father. His cop and lawyer children are played by Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan and Will Estes
