I'm watching. You're watching. Let's talk.

Cake Boss Buddy Valastro talks, just a little

In television on 08/26/2010 at 11:40 am

Cake Boss boss Buddy Valastro says, not surprisingly, that this is “not the right time” to talk about the explosive reports this week that brother-in-law Remy Gonzalez is facing a number of sexual-assault charges.

Gonzalez, like much of Valastro’s family, works with him at the family-run Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken, N.J., and is occastionally featured in Cake Boss, the crazy-popular TLC reality show about the bakery.

But Valastro’s stated desire to not comment did not end there: “This is a time when true families stick together.” That was pretty much it and I’m surprised he said that much or took the call at all; the interview had been set up before the news of the arrest, details of which you can read here via MSNBC’s blog The Wrap, or TMZ.

Whatever the situation with the charges, these words of family support will not surprise fans of the show, some of whom will get to see Valastro in action in Toronto and Montreal, the next stops of a tour to promote the Monday-night TLC show and a book, set to come out in November. Valastro is a family guy, which is what his show is partly about. Fans are already voicing their support on the Cake Boss Facebook page and on Buddy’s Twitter account, @CakeBossBuddy.

Check out my full interview with Valastro in The Gazette and here on the blog on Monday, Sept. 6, a few days before the Saturday, Sept. 11 Toronto show and the Sunday, Sept. 12 Montreal show.
