Talk-show tango Nov. 15-19: Hello Harry Potter and goodbye Lopez Tonight as TLN drops George Lopez’s show

In television on 11/15/2010 at 7:43 am

Those Harry Potter kids are all over this week. HP and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 debuts in Montreal and everywhere at midnight Thursday. You are warned.

Now then, what’s your verdict after a week of the new Conan?

And what do you think about TLN dropping George Lopez’s late-night talk show Lopez Tonight? (Note: I was fooled last week by the TLN listing for George Lopez, but that is Lopez’s former sitcom, which airs every half hour on TLN.)

I noticed the show’s absence this morning when double checking timeslots.

TLN, which has carried the TBS show since it started, replied to my query about the change with this message, this morning.

TLN regrets to inform our viewers that Lopez Tonight is no longer available outside the USA. This is beyond the control of TLN, but we are hopeful that this situation will be resolved soon and that Lopez Tonight can return to Canada on TLN in the future.

Changes were made to the Telelatino schedule and took effect on November 8.   We are pleased to inform you that you can continue to enjoy George Lopez weeknights beginning at 11pm with TLN’s back-to-back broadcast of his hit sitcom George Lopez.

Will you miss Lopez Tonight? Leave a comment below.

Meanwhile, I suspect it’s possible that “no longer available outside the USA” really means TLN has lost its agreement with TBS. I’m snooping around to see if other broadcasters are interested in Lopez Tonight, which is paired with Conan in the U.S. on TBS. Conan, as you now know, airs in Canada at midnight on the Comedy Network and 1 a.m. on CTV.
