Oscar night is here: When and where to watch, how to join our live chat, how to make the best ever Oscar dip

So, Oscar lovers, will Montrealer Denis Villeneuve’s Incendies win for best foreign-language film? Will The King’s Speech take every other award? Will James Franco and Anne Hathaway be as nice and funny as Ricky Gervais was nasty (and great) at the Golden Globes?

Tune in tonight to find out. If you’de like to join the Gazette Oscar team for a live chat that starts during the arrivals, at 8 p.m. ET, we’d love to have you. Find us by clicking here. The TV coverage will go something like this:

CTV: Red carpet special starts at 8 p.m. ET and the show itself starts at 8:30.

ABC: Red carpet special starts at 7 p.m. ET and the show itself starts at 8:30.

E!: Live from teh Red Carpet runs from 6 to 8 p.m. ET.

And whether you’re just watching or joining our live chat or tweeting your heart out, you’ll need sustenance. Lay in stores of soft drinks and or hard liquor. Champagne if Villeneuve becomes the second Canadian filmmaker to win the foreign-language Oscar (after 2004 win of Denys Arcand’s Les Invasions Barbares). As for food, of course you’ll need chips and dip. Ripple is the only way to go. And this not-very-secret-dip-recipe has been in my family for ages.

Awards Show Chip Dip

Dump a packet of Lipton Onion Soup mix into a 500 mL tub of sour cream and stir with a fork. Do this a couple of hours ahead of time and refrigerate.

If you forget to pre-prepare, just whip it together when you can and embrace the crunchy texture of the dehydrated onions.
