Mad Men inks deal, to run 3 more seasons starting March 2012

If you’re a Mad Men fan, this has been a bad week. First news that Season 5 would not start until spring 2012 instead of the summer start fans are used to. Then, as part of the same contract-negotiation drama that sparked the delay, word that budget cuts might require the axing of some of the series’ large cast.

Was it just me or did you need a cigarette? And I don’t even smoke!

But it’s apparently all settled now. Matthew Weiner and AMC have patched things up. Three more seasons, starting in spring 2012, and all but the season debuts and finales episodes that will run 45 minutes, two minutes shorter than episodes have been running. As for cast cuts? None other than required by the story, according to story from Reuters, who quoted Deadline.com.

We knew it had to end, but having to go cold turkey for nine months before the beginning of the three-season end? That’s just cruel.
